Scooters

Scooters were my next big step within racing (Had a short successful stint in CBR250's beforehand). Thanks to 3Bore Racing, a sponsored Gilera Runner 180 became my nefarious instrument of reckoning and I immediately woke up competition in open class.

By no longer having my knees above my head, I started to really stretch my legs and take the class by storm. After causing a stir, strong competition ensued. I ended up with cold shoulders and a good amount of excuses for my quick positioning on the podium.

Gilera Runner 180 (+-25HP)

Sponsored by 3Bore Racing, This scooter came just about race ready with after market performance parts attached to the purchase.

Modifications included:

♣ Removed Any Extra Body Weight
♣ Rear Shock Sent to MP Suspension Tuning
♣ Ported and Flowed Barrel
♣ Set the Squish
♣ Set the Centrifugal Clutch for Better Pull-aways

♣ Installed a Steering Dampener
♣ Installed 13" Rear Rim with Brake Disk
♣ Installed Inverted Motorcross Handlebars
♣ Set Front Suspension Airgap
♣ Experimented with Different Tyres and Tyre Pressures

After a few rounds on the Gilera (and a good few falls), I found the scooter was hard to ride consistently fast.

After fine-tuning the suspension, something I unfortunately could not do myself, I rebounded in the competition and tailored the scooter to my riding style (Rid it like an animal. No mercy on the scooter).

What I Liked: A whole new experience in a different class. The Gilera was the fastest thing I could possibly jump onto and it quickly became a race winner.

What I Disliked: Not one to bitch and complain about sponsored hardware!
